Keeping up with change

Foreword by Elizabeth Lindsay-Ochoa

When I first started my career, I thought my focus would be solely on keeping up with changes in estate planning. Of course, I was very wrong. Working with private clients also encompasses tax, regulatory compliance, family law and so much more. Likewise, this issue of the STEP Journal has a variety of topics, including articles on displaced families, the valuation of cryptocurrency and steps that Canada’s charities should take regarding asset protection when operating internationally.

In recent years, one constant in the STEP Journal has been articles concerning the growing number of regulations affecting our clients. Compliance requirements have proliferated in an era where accountability and openness are essential. In this issue, our authors focus in on reporting regulations, including beneficial ownership registries and tax transparency.
