Separation anxiety
Many separating couples in England and Wales,[1] whether married or unmarried, have links with Europe, which can have an impact on how they manage their separation.
If a separating couple is married, and one or both parties can establish a sufficient link to a European country, one party may choose to start divorce proceedings in Europe as opposed to in England. This can have significant repercussions for how the divorce proceedings and, crucially, the financial aspect of those proceedings, are approached by the court. It is important that couples properly understand the possible advantages and disadvantages of each jurisdiction before making a choice.
